The Hertzstück™ lead sulfide (PbS) detector is a short wave infrared (SWIR) semiconductor sensor for 1 – 3 µm wavelength. For Hertzstück™ PbS detectors we have developed a new, patent pending encapsulation technique: Hertzstück™ is the first bare chip lead salt photoconductor that can be wire-bonded to printed circuit boards. Using this chip-on-board (COB) technology Hertzstück™ enables your devices to be smaller, more flexible and more efficient. 

If your application needs a packaged detector, we also offer Hertzstück™ PbS sensors in TO packages.

Bare chip solutions

Our encapsulation technology allows Hertzstück™ detectors to be directly wire bonded on printed circuit boards. Bare chip solutions enable small, flexible and very efficient devices.

We can offer a test kit, a bonded bare chip on a pluggable board, so that you can experience Hertzstück™ in your application. We can also support you in bonding our bare chips. For small volumes we offer in-house bonding and can work closely together with you to find the optimum bond parameters for your application. Transistor Outline (TO) package solutions

The infrared detectors Hertzstück™ are available with double encapsulation. The sensors are not only protected by a standard TO-package, but also by a novel thin-film encapsulation directly on the chip.

  • Additional TO-package for increased safety, robustness and compatibility with existing products
  • Sapphire window as standard, others available upon request 
  • Active area in mm x mm: 0.5 x 0.5, 1 x 1, 2 x 2, 3 x 3 and 6 x 6 in TO5 and TO8 packages. Other sizes are available upon request.

Multi-pixel detectors

Hertzstück™ multi-pixel detectors consist of 2 to 16 pixels in line or matrix design. The detectors cover a wide spectral range, which is highly relevant for applications in inline or mobile process analytics and quality control.

Detector arrays and array modules

The Hertzstück™ infrared detector array modules comprise a 256 pixel array and a corresponding read-out electronics in a hermetic P28 package.

  • Detectivity at room temperature above 1 · 1011 cm·Hz½/W
  • Framerates up to 1 kHz
  • Analog multiplex output.

Thanks to their low power consumption, Hertzstück™ PbS array modules are the ideal solution for mobile applications such as handheld spectrometers.

Hertzstück™ arrays are available up to 512 pixels and pixel pitches starting from 50 μm. Further customization is possible.

Evaluation kit

  • Evaluation kit enables quick development with all varieties of Hertzstück™ PbS sensors 
  • Features: 2 input channels, 48 kHz sampling rate, 16 bit resolution, powered and controlled directly over USB 
  • Evaluation kit includes analysis software performing real-time FFT and statistics analysis

The evaluation kit enables users to easily compare different varieties of the Hertzstück™ PbS sensors and to quickly develop circuit designs for their applications. Featuring two input channels, 48 kHz sampling rate and 16 bit resolution, the kit can be powered and controlled directly over USB. All supply voltages are created on-board ensuring noise-free biasing and operation without the need for external precision voltage sources: a true plug-and play solution. The kit includes analysis software performing real-time FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) and statistics analysis. Hence the kit directly determines signal and noise characteristics of the sensors, stores measurement data and characterizes detectivity and responsivity with an easy-to-use interface.

The standard version is equipped with 2 mm x 2 mm bare chip PbS detectors, other detector geometries are available upon request. To order an evaluation kit or to download the software, please contact us via info@hertzstueck.de.
